Ange Postecoglou speaks about “ boom and bust” – but he is really only talking about the mechanism that allows Celtic and Rangers to occasionally swap places! SPFL #ScottishFootball #Celtic #Rangers #WindUpThePremiership

Ange is part of a two-horse race that has been in play for 37 seasons.

Each season, the rest of Scottish football simply waits for the next “coronation” of either Celtic or Rangers.

The pretence that Champions League football really matters to the two Glasgow clubs – apart from financially – is a farce.

The Boards of Celtic and Rangers know the real triumph they seek : collecting the European money each season.

The Group Stage is the strict limit of their ambitions.

Grass root supporters feel somewhat different, but, in truth, when Celtic were on their latest 9-in-a-row run, many of their supporters would rather have won 10 than the Champions League.

And Rangers supporters would have felt the same way, had their club been in an identical position.

Winning the two horse race is really all that matters in Glasgows football bubble.

No manager is going to survive more than a couple of full seasons at either Parkhead or Ibrox if they fail to lead their club to a Premiership title.

Even if Rangers had actually won the Europa League last season, their manager would have fallen foul of the same “rule”. He is unlikely to be granted another season if Rangers fail to win the domestic league title in 2023.

The media try to build up excitement related to this farce every season – but it is wearing very, very thin.

I have stated quite clearly that this will not be allowed to continue beyond 40 seasons.

Should no other club break the Glasgow stranglehold by 2026, I will be instigating action through the business competition authorities and, if necessary, the courts, to knock Celtic and Rangers off their perches.

I have made a number of concrete suggestions on this website as to changes that could be to make the Premiership more competitive, to help ensure 37 doesn’t reach 40.

Unless some or all of them are implemented, there really is no hope for the Also Rans.

And if the Premiership doesn’t change?

Then there will be no more Premiership in its current form.

Celtic and Rangers can find a new league in which to strut their stuff – though I suspect they are unlikely to do much strutting in a more competitive environment.

They can find out what’s it has been like for every other Premiership club for 40 years… BLEAK.

Time for Change – OR the end of the Premiership.
