Hearts can afford a £500,000 transfer fee – or even one a bit higher.
However, wages are a different scale of problem.
Even with with a great season in Europe, good domestic performances, bonuses from previous transfers, money from the Foundation and generous benefactors, Hearts will do well to reach a £20 million revenue figure in season 2022/23.
Paying one player up to 5% of that – when bonuses and other costs are included – is difficult for Hearts to contemplate.
Let’s hope Simms loves Hearts AND wonderful Edinburgh enough to compromise on wages.
He is definitely a player who could make a big difference to Hearts over the next few years, as the club strives to break the Glasgow duopoly.
Fingers crossed!
Time for Change.
