Hearts’ will need to consider very carefully before investing £20m in a new training ground. #SPFL #Hearts

It is obvious that Hearts need excellent training facilities.

However, for the next four to five years, with the contract for the existing shared facilities already in place , the club need to focus on investing in the players needed to allow a challenge to Celtic and Rangers.

I strongly suspect the reason Robbie Neilson left Hearts first time around was because the building of the new main stand did not leave enough resources for squad improvement.

Hearts have not won the top league for more than 60 years. This is simply not good enough for what most people regard as Scotlands third biggest club.

Moreover, no club apart from Celtic or Rangers has won the Premiership for almost four decades. This is a completely unacceptable duopoly situation, which will become permanent should it continue for much longer.

Robbie Neilson has been very clear that winning the Premiership could be a four to five year project.

Robbie needs to be given those years – and the financial resources requires to strengthen the squad.

Without those resources, Robbie and Hearts have no hope of success.

Clearly, Hearts will NEVER be able to match the financial strength of the Glasgow giants. However, with savvy commercial management, there are sufficient funding streams in place, including from the Foundation, to allow a meaningful challenge.

Currently, it appears unlikely that any of the other clubs in the SPFL will be able to improve enough to knock Celtic and Rangers off their perches.

Hearts MUST bridge the gap – and bring the Premiership title back to Edinburgh.

Time for Change.
