You only have to visit the Readers Comment section of the sport pages of the (Glasgow) Herald to assess the continuing rancour between Celtic and Rangers supporters.
Rangers superb progress in the Europa League has received few plaudits from the Parkhead support.
Of course, exactly the same would have happened if the positions had been reversed.
Rangers supporters would barely have had a good word to say about Celtic.
The poisonous nature of the competition between the Glasgow Siblings cannot be denied. It goes far beyond football and is distasteful to all who truly love the sport.
One thing is certain.
If Ange P cannot produce a team to rival Rangers success in Europe, he will be out within a couple of seasons.
Domestic success will not save the Australian. Many noisy Celtic supporters consider such success a right, not an achievement.
In the meantime, the rest of Scottish football is left with the harsh reality that the money Rangers and Celtic are making from Europe is in danger of cementing the 37 year hold the two clubs have had on the Premiership title.
I have made clear before that personally I see 40 as a line in the sand in terms of the number of seasons the Glasgow domination can be allowed to continue.
It is clear something is stirring at Hearts and it deserves time to blossom.
I believe Robbie Neilson can lead Hearts to the title within three seasons.
It would be a tremendous – and deserved – triumph for everyone associated with the club.
However, if it does not happen, off-the-field changes in Scottish football will be required to engineer genuine competition.
Let’s hope such changes are not necessary.
But, if they are, they WILL be made.
BELIEVE
Time for Change.
