When a crop of excellent players come together in Scotland, at any club apart from Celtic or Rangers, the story line goes ” it won’t last long. The best players will soon be gone.”
Ferguson gave a lie to this narrative when at Aberdeen.
I am positive Robbie Neilson will rewrite Ferguson’s script and apply it to Hearts.
John Souttar will be gone at the end of the season. He is brilliant but injury prone. He needed a big contract for his pension, so he is making the 40 mile move.
However, apart from that, all the Hearts players have signed long-term contacts or pledged their future to the club. They respect their manager; love the club; and enjoy living in Scotlands lovely capital.
Robbie Neilson has a vision, a vision of initially disrupting the Glasgow duopoly and, ultimately, of winning the Premiership title.
The Foundation of Hearts; caring benefactors; and European prize money can create a pot of resources big enough to allow Robbie’s vision to become reality.
After 37 seasons of miserable two club domination, a breath of fresh air is finally reinvigorating true competition in Scottish football.
Hearts may or may not win the Scottish Cup this season.
But win or lose, it is merely a stepping stone towards winning the Premiership title.
So Hearts supporters need have no fear that what they are seeing now is a mirage.
Something is being built that has solid foundations and will endure for years to come.
Enjoy this season, certainly.
But remember that this is just the start.
Next season and the season after that – and the season after that.
They will ALL see progress – and TRIUMPH.
BELIEVE.
