Celtic have announced huge profits within their interim accounts.
Profits only one other club in Scottish football – Rangers – can even dream about.
The financial strength of the Glasgow clubs has led to their complete domination of the Scottish Premiership for 37 seasons.
No other league on the planet has suffered from such domination.
Without fundamental changes in Scottish football, 37 will become 40 — then, in 2035, 50.
This cannot be allowed to continue.
Here are the financial alternatives
A. Celtic and Rangers each pay £10 million per season as a participation fee, to continue playing in the Premiership.
OR
B. All money earned from European tournament participation, after travel and accommodation costs are met, is shared equally amongst the Premiership clubs.
Other small changes could be made – but these are the only two massive changes which can really alter the course of the Premiership positively.
Equally, changes are needed in the way the Premiership operates eg clubs only playing each other twice per season – but these will have marginal impact unless the financial gulf between the top two and the rest is addressed.
The financial changes need to be implemented within the next two years.
