Hearts celebrate 150 years of existence in 2024 – but existence is not enough.
History tells us that Hearts are the top club in Edinburgh, the scenic capital of Scotland.
But being part of the scenery is not nearly adequate.
For 60 long years, Hearts have being Also Rans in Scotland’s top league.
For the last 36 years, disgracefully, Hearts have been voyeurs, as the Glasgow duopoly has throttled the life out of Scottish football, eliminating ambition, destroying hope.
Enough is enough.
Today, Hearts are led by a manager who is a winner.
He has no intention of cowering under the table, waiting for the crumbs from Celtic and Rangers.
He has put together a squad that has the depth, strength and talent to sit at the table, demanding their share of the Main Course.
That Main Course is the Premiership title.
I have made clear that winning at Ibrox today is not vital to Hearts making a successful bid to win Scotland’s top league.
That remains the case.
However, there is absolutely no doubt that many are looking at Hearts and thinking what they have done so far this season is a false dawn. They expect to see Hearts fall away, their dreams shattered, hope extinguished again.
A win for Hearts today would cause shock waves around Scotland – and well beyond.
It would be welcomed by the vast majority, who are so tired, so bored, with a two club domination that exists in no other league in Europe – or around the planet.
These Hearts players are individually and collectively good enough to win today, to fell Rangers on their own pitch, in front of 50,000 of their own supporters.
Do this, Hearts.
Enter the lions den and take away the meat.
Come home to Edinburgh with a victory.
For one club; for the Scottish Premiership; for Scottish Football; for the whole Natiom.
Restore hope – and PRIDE.
Most important of all when you take to the pitch today?
BELIEVE.
