Gary Mackay was pivotal in setting up the Foundation of Hearts, for which he deserves much praise.
However, he is not the most positive character when it comes to what Hearts targets should be; perhaps he was scarred by that awful experience in Dundee in 1986.
For me, the target has always been for Hearts to win the Scottish Premiership. Nothing that happened in 1998, 2005 or 2012 changed that.
Winning the Premiership is “The Dream”.
Todays Hearts squad is the strongest in my memory – and certainly deeper in quality than the one that couldn’t quite see it through 36 seasons ago.
The problem is though that Hearts will only be able to keep this squad together for two seasons. After that, some of the best players will be lured away by bigger money at bigger clubs outside Scotland.
Luckily, Celtic and Rangers are looking vulnerable right now.
For this Glasgow weakness to coincide with Hearts being strong is pure luck – and luck on which Hearts must capitalise.
I firmly believe Hearts can win the Premiership this season.
Our manager is a winner; his coaches are winners; his players look like winners.
The stars have aligned. Now is NOT the moment to be dreaming of a “Top 4” finish.
Now IS the time to give everything – blood, sweat and tears – EVERYTHING – to bring the Premiership flag back to Tynecastle.
It CAN be done.
NOW. IN SEASON 21/22.
BELIEVE.
Time for Change.
