Celtic have been left wrong-footed by their failure to clinch a deal with Eddie Howe.
They have had to rush out and sign up someone vaguely acceptable; the transfer window is opening and they need a body in place to lend some kind of credibility to departures and signings. Such moves need to be portrayed as part of the plan, not arbitrary.
In particular, departures of top players have to be justified with something more than “it was a good financial offer”.
Celtic have plenty of money; it’s top class players they lack.
Celtic supporters must be dreading the new season.
There is no sign of Gerrard leaving Ibrox and, until he does, Celtic will be 2nd in a two-horse race.
As for the Also Rans, they will simply continue to watch as the two horses race a country mile ahead of them.
