The media in Scotland love to focus on the cup competitions, pushing them because the Also Rans have some chance of winning silverware – though not in the period during which Celtic were winning the Quad Treble.
The reality is that in most other countries no one much cares about cups. They are at best fringe.
Domestically, league competitions are the most important measure of success.
By that measure, neither Hibs or Hearts can be judged to be successful.
Between them, the two Edinburgh clubs have gone an aggregate 130 years since winning the league.
A good word to describe such “performance”?
ATROCIOUS.
And this atrocious situation will continue until there are radical adjustments to the financial arrangements in Scottish football.
These adjustments are needed NOW, in 2021.
