James Anderson gave £50,000 each to every Scottish football club 12 months ago.
He has been a generous donor to Hearts for a number of years.
However, the greatest service he can do for Hearts – and the rest of Scottish football – is to champion our campaign for fundamental changes to the financial and structural arrangements of the Scottish Premiership.
There is no point having people of Anderson’s stature involved in Scotland’s National Sport if they simply sit back and accept as inevitable the dreary duopoly that has been strangling the life out of the Also Rans for 36 long, boring seasons.
The critical changes required immediately are:
1. Celtic and Rangers each paying £20 million a season for their places in the Premiership.
2. The clubs in the Premiership to play each other only twice per season.
These two changes are needed NOW, in 2021.
Subsequently, three other steps may well be necessary.
3. Introduction of a handicap system to stop “in-a-row” runs.
4. Creation of an end-of-season Rugby League model of knock-out competition to deliver “Super Premiership” winners, with the winners to enjoy entry to the Champions League.
5. A five year ban on transfers of players from the other Premiership clubs to Celtic and Rangers.
There is no time to waste.
36 years of hurt must be ended.
James Anderson can help lead the way and become a hero to all who truly care about Scottish football.
Time for Change.
