Celtic and Rangers have been stripping the best players out of every other Scottish club for decades – and the situation shows little sign of getting better.
Hibs transfer of McGinn to Aston Villa at least stopped him falling into Celtics clutches – but Villa got a player now valued at £20 million for around only £3 million.
Why?
Because what Celtic and Rangers are prepared to pay for Scottish players basically establishes the price-tag for any buyer.
So one of the other changes we need in the Premiership – in addition to the Old Firm paying the SPFL £40 million a year and clubs playing each other only twice – is a five year ban on Celtic and Rangers buying players from other Premiership clubs.
This move will further strengthen the opportunity of the current permanent “Also Rans” to challenge for the league title.
Time for Change.
