Those Hearts supporters who financially contribute to the Foundation of Hearts deserve great praise.
So please feel free to praise me!
However, applause over, let’s put the total funding of the FoH in perspective.
By 2020, in its 6 years of existence, the FoH had raised more than £10 million.
So roughly the same as a top English Premier League player earns in a season….
If you want to consider some other figures, how about this for starters?
In the aggregate 130 years since either Hearts or Hibs won the top Scottish league, at today’s prices their supporters have spent over £600 million on match tickets alone.
Such figures go a long way towards explaining why I have had enough of the “Dream” that sustained me for nearly 60 years.
That Dream was that Hearts one day would be League Champions.
I now realise that Dream can NEVER come true within the current structure and financial arrangements of the SPFL.
Hearts will celebrate 150 years of existence if they merely survive until 2024.
But what is the point of merely surviving?
I would rather Hearts became just a plaque on a wall than accept the continuing domination of Scottish football by two clubs – ANY two clubs.
Surviving isn’t nearly enough.
Time for Change.
RADICAL CHANGE.
