Shock. Horror. Sensation.
Celtic are 2nd. Rangers are 1st.
Well I never! Who would have believed it?
But wait a minute!
Those are the same two teams which have occupied the top two positions for 36 years!Uncompetitive. Boring. Monotonous.
Rangers deserve their win – but it doesn’t help Scottish football one iota.
The return of the poisonous duopoly to end a period of tedious monopoly is no salvation.
Meantime, Aberdeen ( AKA ” The Challengers”) can’t keep players- or their manager. They are forced to sell their top striker for £2 million.
Hibs ( AKA “The Boy Band” ( Neil Lennon quote) ) put a price tag of only £3 million on their top striker, similar to the loose change they received when flogging McGinn to Villa.
Hearts hopefully can do better, under true supporter ownership, but recent history doesn’t engender confidence. Allowing Lafferty to go to Rangers was plain daft – he should have been put in the reserves all season if necessary – and not being able to persuade 18 year old Aaron Hickey to stay doesn’t say much for persuading anyone to “play for the jersey”. If Andy Irvine is allowed to leave, Hearts will have proved to be as weak as Aberdeen and Hibs.
Scottish football needs more than a vaccination – it needs to be completely reconstructed to stop ANY club ever again winning 9 titles in a row and/or a Quad Treble.
We need some leadership from the “also rans” -or soon even the pretend race we have today will be gone.
