Rangers Win Premiership – No Change Then?

Some are saying that Rangers winning the Premiership ends a decade of boring domination by one club.

However, in reality it is not a “boring decade” of Celtic domination that is the concern.

It is the 36 years that have elapsed since any club apart from Celtic or Rangers has won the league.

No other league on the planet has suffered such humiliating domination by two clubs.

The “also rans” have been left broken shadows of what they were in the Golden Age of Scottish football – 1950 to 1965 – when there was genuine competition, the game was worth watching – and no fewer than SEVEN clubs won the top league!

Strangely, it was at the end of the Golden Age that Celtic won the European Cup. The cauldron of genuine competition made Celtic stronger.

Now, playing in a weak duopoly, Celtic have more chance of winning Euromillions than the Champions League.

I will be writing to all Premiership Chairman before the end of March telling them their time of being cannon fodder is over. They must either personally back change -or resign.

The Aberdeen Chairman Cormack will be getting a particularly strong letter. He has fired a manager who had an impossible task, whilst investing in a new stadium ahead of the player squad.

Cormack is in charge. He and his predecessors in the role have lead a “non-challenging” challenger. One trophy won since the new millennium started. It is a pathetic outcome.

Aberdeen had their chance when Rangers had to start again in 2012. They should have poured money in to challenge Celtic, to take Aberdeen back to where they were in the early 1980’s; feared by the Old Firm.

Aberdeen needed to risk everything but instead they lived up to their nickname.

SHEEP.

Let’s be clear. There is no point in Aberdeen – or Hibs or Hearts – surviving in the current non-competition. They are simply playing on the feelings of supporters to continue the never-ending agony.

Enough is enough.

Cormack and Gordon at Hibs need to stop running away from the reality of the situation and start running towards the bank. Bring about the required change – or go out of business for good.

Similarly, the Foundation of Hearts needs to end the thinking that survival is the main target. There is no point in Hearts being around for a 150 year anniversary in 2024 if Scottish football has not changed by then.

The Premiership MUST be made winnable by more than than two clubs – I have suggested a handicap system – OR Celtic and Rangers MUST take their 106 titles and move to a different league.

Radical change is needed. Another example – a return to the pre-1980 situation, where home match gate receipts were shared with the away club. Moving to a situation where Celtic and Rangers kept their home receipts was suicidal for the other clubs.

Time to right that wrong of forty years ago.

Be certain.

“In a row” is dead. It is NOT acceptable.

The leaders must take the Premiership back to the glorious 1950’s – OR IT MUST CEASE TO EXIST.
