Gulliver would feel at home in Scottish football……

The most telling aspect of the David Turnbull signing saga has been the portrayal of the transfer fee as a “huge outlay”.

Scottish football is a lalaland where midgets are portrayed as giants and tiny fees are repackaged as huge outlays.

The amount Celtic paid for Turnbull was 10% of the sum they would have earned from making it into the next round of the Champions League – and they might well have made it through with Turnbull in their side. The only surprise is that the ultra conservative Celtic board didn’t pay up so the player could help keep them in the main European competition.

There are clearly no Gullivers on the Celtic board of directors!

Last season, Celtic made a similar mistake by failing to sign McGinn from Hibs. So even the “giants” at Celtic Park are actually midgets, always seeking to take the best from their fellow Scottish clubs for peanuts.

Don’t get me started on the fact that Hearts are having to accept £1.3 million from a provincial Italian club for Aaron Hickey, because Celtic would sooner pick up their 30% of that fee, rather than buying an excellent young player themselves.

The need for radical change in Scottish football highlighted yet again; as if anyone needed reminding.
